Launched at IFA 2018, the Acer Swift 5 was the world's first 14" laptop that weighed under one kilogram (2.2 pounds). This year's updated model is even lighter, while offering a more powerful processor, discrete graphics, and over 50% more battery life.

Acer collaborated with Microsoft and Intel to bring you a device even more suited for your needs. Designed for users who are frequently on the move and don't want to be weighed down by their daily driver, the Acer Swift 5 is an ultra-portable, yet powerful device with cutting edge technology.

At 990 grams (35 ounces), the Swift 5 remains the world's lightest laptop to date. If you dropped the optional Nvidia GeForce MX250 discrete graphics card from your setup, you could save a few more grams. The 2019 high-end model also boasts Intel's latest 10th Gen i7 processor. Users opting for the lower-end model will receive Intel's Iris Plus graphics.

For storage, you can get a PCIe Gen 3x4 SSD with up to 512GB. The single USB3.1 Type-C connector supports Thunderbolt 3. You'll also find two USB3 connectors, an audio jack, and an HDMI port. The Swift 5 supports Wi-Fi 6 (802.11ax).

Like the previous model, the Swift 5's 14" display offers Full HD (1920 x 1080 pixels), as well as an IPS touchscreen. The ultra narrow top and side bezels framing the screen are only 3.97mm (0.156 inches) wide, providing you with even more screen space inside the 14" form factor.

The chassis is crafted from a combination of magnesium-lithium and magnesium-aluminum alloys. It's sleek, beautiful, and with only 14.95 mm (0.59 inches) also incredibly thin. Embedded in the chassis is a fingerprint reader that lets you safely log into your device through Windows Hello.

Acer managed to push battery life by 50% compared to last year's model. The updated Swift 5 will last you up to 12.5 hours. It also comes with fast charging, providing up to 4.5 hours of battery life after a half hour charge. We don't know whether this is the best new feature, but the increased battery life is certainly one of the more impressive improvements.

Overall, the Acer made incredible process with the Swift 5 in just one year. We're curious to see how the battery holds long-term.

If you're excited to get your hands on one of these, you'll be pleased to hear that the Acer Swift 5 will be available in Europe later this month for EUR899. It will come to the US market in November, with prices starting at USD899.
