Feeling down, bored or restless? That’s exactly what BuzzFeed is for. It might not be an overly intelligent website, nor is it very original, but the content it curates is just right for those moments when you’re staring at the screen but can’t seem to get anything done.
The good thing about BuzzFeed articles is that they don’t take much time to go through. Image-heavy as they are, you can go through an entire post in about 5 minutes, and if you find the right ones, you’re guaranteed to feel a bit better when those 5 minutes are up. Unlike other time-wasting techniques such as Facebook or Twitter, you don’t have to worry about encountering something depressing. Just choose the right posts, and you’re golden. These posts are just right.
No matter how old you are, you must have a funny story about misheard lyrics. When I was growing up, I had a friend who was sure the famous Radiohead song “Creep” was actually about banana cream. True story. Whether it’s “slowly walking down the hall, faster than a cannibal”, or the hilarious quote you see above, this one is going to make you laugh. Unless, of course, you don’t know the songs.

Do you often have lunch in your college dining hall? If you do, you’re probably bored of eating the same things over and over again. This article can help you upgrade your food experience if you feel like making the effort. If you don’t, you’ll still feel better knowing that you can. I mean, soft-serve ice cream with Rice Krispies and olive oil. Don’t you feel better already?

Speaking of college, many students live in really tiny bedrooms. If you do too, it doesn’t mean you can’t enjoy life. These tips require some DIY skills, and you may not feel like following them right this minute, but it’s nice to keep them in mind for the next time you feel cramped in your room. It’s inspiring to see how a tiny space can become useful and efficient by using the right items.
Any tiny room tips you’ve tried yourself?
Much has been said about the Harry Potter books, but they’re not what you would usually call “inspirational”. Unless, of course, you look for the right quotes, and type them up in bold text over a frame from the movie. These are actually pretty nice insights, so even if you’re not into Harry Potter, you might find one that will lift your spirits.
There’s nothing like a good music scene to make you feel better. There’s just something so uplifting about them. More often than not, these are the scenes that make an entire movie; the part people keep going back to to get that good feeling again. This article includes only animated GIF snippets of the musical moments, but you can check out this similar article about surprising musical scenes for some of the video versions.
Which is your favorite musical scene?
Go back to when you were a kid. Was there anything better than getting ice cream in a cone? A cone makes the ice cream so much better and fun, and it’s only for caloric concerns that many of us give it up. Well, turns out ice cream is not the only food that’s better in a cone. Bacon and eggs, muffins, spaghetti and pizza can all be had in a cone too. Don’t you feel better already just knowing that?
A word of caution: don’t click through to this page unless you like slapstick. Some of these GIFs might make you cringe, and some are just not very funny. With that said, none made me feel worse than I was already feeling, and some really made me laugh. This is not the kind of humor I would normally go for, but I know many that can’t get enough. If you don’t enjoy this kind of humor, skip this one. If you do, you’re in for a treat.
Many American city names are not in English. Coming from French, German, Spanish, and a handful of other languages, you never really know how to pronounce those names you see on the map (unless they happen to come from your native language). This post puts things right. This is just a small handful of names you’re probably pronouncing wrong, and there are many others I wish were included, but it’s still a great way to pass a few minutes, have a laugh, and even learn something useful.
Saving the best for last, this collection of microwavable mug snacks will get you off your computer and into the kitchen. None of these are overly complicated, and once you find one you can actually make, and make it, you’re bound to be feeling better. Who wouldn’t feel better after making a chocolate chip cookie in a mug?
Bottom Line: Don’t Be Too Serious
I know some of you are probably annoyed about the low quality of BuzzFeed articles. I am too, sometimes. But when you think about it, BuzzFeed is not meant to be about serious journalism, and a deep political story or a complex technology how-to are just not right for every mood. The above posts should not replace your normal readings, they should be added like a sprinkle of sugar when you need a quick pick-me-up.
The curated Web is a fascinating place, and there’s much more to it than BuzzFeed. If you like the concept, there are many others you can try, such as these 6 curated websites Dave recommended. You can also make your own curated blog pretty easily if you follow these simple curation tips.
Of course, these may not be to anyone’s liking. What do you do when you need quick entertainment and don’t want to hurt your productivity? Share in the comments!
