Another really cool feature of this app is the ability to find local contractors who can do the job for you. Mark on Call ($2.99)

This application is one of the best planning tools available on a mobile platform. The main feature is the ability to lay out and plan a room so you know exactly what will fit in the space. I agree that Houzz Design Ideas is a pretty handy thing! I think that the best part is that furniture and objects are tagged with links to manufacturer's webpage so if you like something, you can check it in detail or buy it immediately.
I've tried out plenty of apps myself, one of my favorites is Adobe Kuler. It's a perfect tool for matching colors, just take a picture with your camera and it extracts the colors and suggests suitable palettes.
I've read a similar article about home design apps a while ago and there are some useful apps focused on 3D visualization of interiors, like Interior Design for iPad or Home Design 3D.
