Is there anything an iPhone or iPad cannot help you with? If there is, I have yet to find it. Turns out, you can even use the magical devices to help make your home a more beautiful and comfortable place. Planning an interior design project is hard, and that is why there are people who do it for a full-time job. However, we can't all afford to hire a professional, and that's where some awesome iPhone apps can come in and save the day.

I will readily admit that I spend way too much of my time watching shows on HGTV where people make fantastic renovations on their homes. It makes me a little jealous, and even further, it makes me want to learn some of those skills. While I will never be a professional, using these apps has certainly helped me to become more skilled with the planning and layout of my house.

ColorSmart by BEHR (Free)

This app is really most useful if you are using BEHR paint, but that's not much of a stretch, since it's one of the most popular paints on the market. Even if you aren't using BEHR paint, you can still use the application to help you get an idea of the kinds of color you want, it just won't be an exact match.

Colorsmart

Basically, this app allows you to see what a different paint color will look like in a variety of rooms. Paint is one of the most important parts of the design process, it sets the mood for the entire room and serves as a backdrop for all the other elements of the design. This app will help make choosing the right color a little easier.

Houzz Interior Design Ideas (Free)

Houzz is an incredible database designed to help inspire you. It's a bit like looking at a magazine, finding ideas you like, and cutting them out for later. It features over 1.5 million photos of design ideas, which makes it an incredible database for finding your own style. It's really easy to use, and it's a great way to see designs by professionals that can adopted for use in your home.

Another really cool feature of this app is the ability to find local contractors who can do the job for you. Sure, you might have some great ideas, but not everyone has the skill to execute them, and getting a professional is a great way of bringing your ideas to life, as long as you have the budget for it.

Mark on Call [Broken URL Removed] ($2.99)

This application is one of the best planning tools available on a mobile platform. The main feature is the ability to lay out and plan a room so you know exactly what will fit in the space. This is critical to the design process, as getting a piece of furniture that is too big for a room can kill the design. It's easy to use, so even if you have no experience with design, you can still enjoy laying out your designs in this app.

Mark on Call also lets you take photos of actual finishes and skin them into your design. This will give you some idea of what the color and style will look like in your room. The list of features is absolutely massive. Basically, anything you want to do when it comes to planning your design is available in Mark on Call.

DecorPad (Free)

This is like a smaller version of the Houzz app. While it's not as robust, it still features a large database designed to help you find your inspiration. It has plenty of search options available to help you locate designs that will work well in your space.

DecorPad also has features designed to help find great deals. After all, a redesign of your space can be very expensive, so anywhere you can cut costs is a good thing.

Handy Man DIY [Broken URL Removed] ($1.99)

This app is a toolbox for anyone wanting to do things themselves. Well, it's a partial toolbox, since you will need some actual tools unless you plan to punch nails into the wall, which seems like a rather bad idea.

Handy Man DIY is able to record room dimensions and then calculate volume, create shopping lists for a project, and even provide instructions for how to implement some of these designs. If you are hiring professionals to put forth your designs, you will not need this application, but if you are looking to get the job done with your own two hands, this app will prove incredibly helpful.

Conclusion

If you want to decorate your house in such a way that anyone who comes over will be jealous of your sense of style, these apps might just be perfect for you. You will still need a good eye and some skill, but with time, you might just become a master interior designer. Heck, you might even find that you love it so much that a career change is needed.
