I care about my privacy so I have installed Evernote with some effort not to Sync with their server. I don't use it on my mobile phone so "only pc mode" is good enough for me. I have hidden Sync icons on toolbar and never clicked it.
So then I discovered that when I clipped any portion of a website with "Evernote Browser Extension" it was working slow like updating/sending data over the internet. Also my router's activity light was blinking continiously.
Is that right? Even if I don't choose to sync my account, those clippings go to their server when clipped with browser extensions?
    Just curious.

    Hi Carl,

Evernote fired the former ceo. Now, a totally new mgmt is in place, and also the numbers look good.

      Hi, Peter:

Thanks for the info, but it's too late. As far as I'm concerned, it's water under the bridge, and the bridge was burned. After the way I was treated, I will NEVER have anything to do with Evernote again. There was a time when the product was unique enough that I might be willing to put up with them, but OneNote does everything Evernote does, and for free. There's a lesson here for any company: if you alienate your client base, you make it very difficult to get them back.

I was a paid Evernote subscriber for a year, and it was one of the most frustrating experiences of my life. They were constantly "updating" their product, and the result was that the apps were broken more often than they worked. Add to that a weirdly hostile community and the entire experience left a bad taste in my mouth. I switched to OneNote, and I couldn't be happier. It would also appear that Evernote is in financial trouble (articles to that effect abound on-line), so those people who depend on Evernote would do well to consider keeping their options open.
