Twitter is gradually unrolling its new Twitter profile layout, and we have already told you everything you need to know to make the best use of Twitter’s new profiles. Unfortunately, if you’re not a photographer and bored with Twitter’s own offering, you might be hard-pressed to find free Twitter headers that fit the new dimensions. Here are a few sites that’ll give you that quality header in no time.
TwitrCovers, a great place to find the perfect Twitter cover, has really been on the ball, unleashing a wide selection of new header designs since Twitter’s new layout was announced. As always, TwitrCovers goes above and beyond by letting you preview each cover to see what it will look like on your profile. All you have to do is click an image and then hover over it.
To set one of these images as your header image, you’ll have to click the ‘Set as your Twitter cover’ button underneath the image, and then grant TwitrCovers access to your profile. You can easily revoke this access after the cover has been set by heading to your Twitter profile, and clicking Settings > Apps > Revoke Access.
morgueFile gives you free access to a huge number of stock photography images without needing to give any credit for using them. This removes a whole host of copyright issues you might otherwise face.
Most of these images won’t be the right dimensions for your Twitter header, but MorgueFile does have a built-in cropping tool which you can use to adjust the image you’re downloading. Just make sure the original image is large enough, so that you can crop it to 1500x500px.
Canva is a free graphic-design platform that allows you to create professional looking designs from within your browser. To create your own Twitter header using Canva, simply log into your Canva account and click on the ‘Use Custom Dimensions’ option on the home page. Enter 1500px (wide) x 500px (tall) and design to your heart’s content!
Canva does provide some free stock images you can use, though many will cost you $1 per image. You can, however, upload and use your own images for free if you want to create a design based on a photo.
Canva makes it easy to combine images, text and background to a professional-looking design. Learn more about it in our full review.
