The Internet has been around for 25 years. Boy, we’ve come a long way. Remember the days of Netscape? How about Napster? 1.44 MB floppies, anyone?

In celebration of the Internet’s 25th birthday, Onyx created an interactive website highlighting some Internet and technology favourites. These static images don’t do it justice — go ahead and visit the interactive website, it’s much more fun.

Do these bring back any fond memories?

The Internet has been in existence since 1969. 20 years before the http protocol ("the Web"), a number of us at certain academic and military sites were using a variety of Internet protocols, such as uucp, ftp, ... Many of us had mixed emotions about the Web. On the one hand we found it was a wonderful addition to the Internet. On the other hand, it brought a flood of clueless newbies that didn't know anything about anything, misbehaved to say the least (and that continues to get worse), and added usage congestion that did not provide commensurate added value to the Internet. Now there are some alternatives to the mainstream Internet, unknown by the vast majority on the Internet, where some of us can go and get work done in a civilized environment.

Why did you only include Apple devices on this timeline? What about Windows & Android devices. Apple didn't invent the devices, they stole the idea from others.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but it also depicts two Nintendo devices, a Kindle, and a Segway among other things. The singling out of iPhone and iPad as being the forerunners in their respective device categories is completely justified, in my opinion. If you're going to argue they stole the iPhone and iPad from previous devices, then you're ignoring the transformations that changed those product categories from clunky, overpriced niche items into the mainstream device categories that exist today. Have you seen a pre-2007 "smartphone"? Or a pre-iPad "tablet"? Would you want to use one?

Little confused by the 2013 average cost of RAM, since I know from the pc custom build that I'm working on that the cheapest 8GB I can get is around $60.

The Internet has been around for longer than websites / the World Wide Web.

This should be "25 years of glorious websites".
