What Is Chillwave?

Chillwave is an electronic music genre characterized by the use of synthesizers, drum machines, samplers, and heavy effects processing.

The genre emerged during the mid-2000s revival of 80s music. The genre was founded in the blogosphere, based on sound commonalities recognized by a journalist, rather than geographical origin. This is a new phenomenon and the dispute on whether or not Chillwave constitutes a distinct genre is yet to be solved.

Chillwave is rooted in a range of genres, including ambient, new wave, chillout, lo-fi, downtempo, shoegazing, indie/dream/synth/psychedelic pop, and ambient house music. You will find many of these genres in the albums featured below.

Final Question

This edition was composed based on the assumption that most of you come for the music and care about the music only. I chopped away the non-essentials. What do you miss? And what do you like?
