I am using PureSync to keep synchronized a catalog of files and documents on my laptop with a copy on an external hard drive. Basically, I keep in locale only the files I am currently using and have PureSync set to never delete anything from the backup, but just add to it any new file/directory I put in my local catalog.

When I cannot access the external hard drive, I am finding it difficult to keep track of what I already have in backup and often end up searching again online for the same things, e.g. music lessons and videos, fonts and icons, documentation and so on.

Is there any software which can display a list of the backed up files without keeping thm physically on my laptop? Even only having shortcuts to the actual files would be enough. Maybe a .bat script creating the shortcuts is the best solution?

Thanks!

I have a 300 gig hardrive with 10,000 folders. I want to create a list of the folder names so I can find them easier. I don't want to manually create a list. Any advice?

Lifehacker just had an article about using Locate32 and Dropbox to keep track of all your data that isn't stored on your computer.http://lifehacker.com/#!5753790/use-locate32-and-dropbox-to-index-and-find-files-from-anywhereFrom what I read Locate32 also has an automatic function to update the list of files.

Hello, you might want to give DirSyncPro a try. It is a Java based software that does not need to be installed to run. Just copy the executable file to a flash drive, double click the executable file and you are ready to go. It can also be run from the command line and can be configured for logs and reporting. Hope it helps, http://www.dirsyncpro.org/index.html

Thank you very much.Treesize is probably the best option for me, as I can just run a printout of my catalogue as a pdf file for reference.PureSync has a 'view log..' option, however I think that when running incremental backups this would only list the very last fiiles copied rather than the full content of the catalogue. Thanks!

Do puresync has a log file?try fbackup http://www.fbackup.com/Also they are running a competiton to get Backup4all Professional, so you can be lucky with a small effort.orOpen up a command prompt window (Start, Run, type in cmd and hit enter) and go to the directory that you want to start backing up. Type in the following:dir /s > backupfiles091607.txtThe "/s" will do a directory listing of the current folder as well as any sub-directories in that folder. The ">" redirects the output to the filename "backupfiles091607.txt". You can name the file anything you want but I like to give it an obvious name with the date so I know when I did it last. Just give it a little bit of time to run as it will look like the PC has hung if you have a lot of files. Once the prompt comes back, open the text file in notepad and you can see all of the files along with the folder that they're in.This will NOT include any hidden or system files in the list. You'll have to change the attributes before you run this to include them all.Batch Filehttp://www.theeldergeek.com/file_list_generator.htmfrom microsofthttp://support.microsoft.com/?kbid=272623JR Directory Printerhttp://www.spadixbd.com/freetools/jdirprint.htmTreeSizehttp://www.jam-software.com/freeware/
