I want to switch from Windows XP Pro to Ubuntu using a factory live CD. Is there a certain way to re-enter the files and settings into Ubuntu? How much stuff is unnecessary?

Do you mean that you want to remove windows xp and to instal ubuntu.or you want to add your ubuntu cd in the drive and boot on it?you can use UNetbootin
