Is it possible to have Chrome automatically sort files so specific file types go to special folders? I want my PDFs to automatically download to a certain folder and everything else to the regular folder.

Ridiculous, this is what I was looking for as well, if any Chrome developers are listening/reading, make this auto-sort feature and a Stop option in the right click menu and toolbar like they have in Mozilla, and get rid of inspect element on right click drop down menu, kthanksbye.

Internet explorer automatically sorts mp3s to the music folder, and pictures to the pictures folder. Fire fox also has extensions that accomplish this task. Chrome is the only browser that doesn't offer this option actually.

Opera has supported this feature for years. You can select to save any file type to any folder or have it prompt for that file type or open with application of your choosing.

I have managed to automate where downloads are saved by using Adam Pash's Belvedere Automated File Manager. By using it to monitor the default download location you can apply rules by a number of variants. For example I have all torrent files moved to the folder monitored by uTorrent. I did find a solution using
Privacy Controls software
but the details of which I can't fully recall right now but it's worth looking into if other solutions aren't quite what you need. I do love chrome though and I trust google will add this feature in future versions.

One option is to have Chrome as you where you want to download too, that way you can make that choice while you are downloading.Options> under the hood > downloads> check "ask where to save each file before downloading"

Sorting downloads is not a built-in feature for any browser. However, there are two extensions for Firefox that let you sort downloads into different folders based on their file extension.https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/25https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/4781Chrome does support extensions. Unfortunately, it does not support Firefox extensions and I couldn't find anything similar for Chrome. Maybe one day. :)https://chrome.google.com/extensions

No, that's not a feature that's built into Chrome (or any other browser, as far as I know). One workaround mightbe to write a batch file that would move files from your general "downloads" folder to other locations, but you'd need to run this periodically - it wouldn't happen automatically.
