Sony has fueled rumors that it is planning to create its own cloud gaming platform. This came in direct response to questions regarding Microsoft's Xbox Game Pass.

Is PlayStation Getting a New Cloud Gaming Service?

Whether PlayStation will be getting a new cloud gaming platform remains to be seen. It already has a game streaming service called PlayStation Now (how to use PS Now on your PC). So there's no reason why Sony should rush out a new platform in response to Game Pass.

That said, Sony has added fuel to the fire in an interview with the Russian news agency, TASS.

When probed on his response to Xbox Game Pass, PlayStation's Jim Ryan said:

There is actually news to come, but just not today. We have PlayStation Now which is our subscription service, and that is available in a number of markets.

It remains unclear just what this "news" actually is. Obviously, it relates to cloud gaming in some respect, though.

However, this could simply be an improvement to the current PlayStation Now subscription service. Nobody knows for sure what Sony has planned for the future.

No New PlayStation Cloud Gaming Service... for Now

All that remains is to wait patiently until Sony decides to release this "news to come" and end any speculation. Although judging by PS5 pre-order fulfillment, that may take a while.

We may have a new cloud-based gaming service. Or will we see the PS Now service expanded to improve its feature set or game library? Only time will tell.
