Sony's announced that it's acquired Bluepoint Games, the studio behind some much-loved remakes and remasters.

Let's take a look at what this means for Sony, Bluepoint Games, and gamers.

We'll See Fantastic Remakes, Remasters, and Originals From Bluepoint Games

We've seen some really interesting PlayStation news over the last few months.

Back in June, Sony acquired Housemarque, the Finnish video game developer who, most recently, gave us the excellent PS5 title, Returnal. Since then, Sony has also acquired the UK developer, Firesprite, given us an incredible PlayStation showcase, and Sony has silently released a new PS5.

Now Sony has acquired Bluepoint Games. For those that don't know, Bluepoint Games aren't just any remake or remaster developer—they are THE remake and remaster developer.

With the slew of remakes and remasters in video games, we've all seen our fair share of lazy ports, inefficient remasters, and uninspired remakes. However, Bluepoint Games really makes its remakes and remasters its own.

Bluepoint Games has made stunning versions of hit titles, such as the Metal Gear Solid HD Collection, Uncharted: The Nathan Drake Collection, Shadow of the Colossus, and Demon's Souls, the latter two of which have set the bar for a truly outstanding remake.

Bluepoint Games Is Working on Original Content

The developer is now looking to try its hand at original content. Bluepoint's President, Marco Thrush, spoke to IGN and said: “Our next project, we're working on original content right now. We can't talk about what that is, but that's the next step in the evolution for us.”

Given their high quality in video game design, attention to detail, and familiarity with the PS5's architecture, it's exciting to think of what original content Bluepoint Games will release.

The developer goes above and beyond the usual standard for remakes and remasters, and it's clear that it wants to maintain that going into original content. Now, as part of the Sony family, Bluepoint should have the support, opportunity, and security to realize its goals.

Does this mean we'll never see another remake or remaster from Bluepoint Games? It would be sad if true, as no other studio does it quite like Bluepoint. So, here's hoping that Bluepoint's place with Sony brings us quality remakes, remasters, and original content.
