Is there a program or utility out there that will simply tell me what is process is reading my disk?

Recently whenever I start my laptop up, the disk light goes on and stays on continuously causing the computer to run like an old dog. The CPU is fine but it really slows things down. It's very frustrating!

Assuming you are running Vista or newer you can use Resource Monitor. It does have storage activity tab that shows you the process, the file/location and the data I/O a process is causing.Search for it in the Start menu or just right-click the taskbar and select Task Manager. Then in Task Manager go to the Performance tab and you'll see a button which opens up Resource Monitor.
