Snapchat is yet another social media network that is permanently banning US President Donald Trump's account. The platform is planning to remove Trump's account when he leaves office on January 20, 2021.

Snapchat to Ban Trump in the "Interest of Public Safety"

As soon as President Trump is out of office, Snapchat is going to permanently take down his account. This comes after the pro-Trump protests at Capitol Hill, which Snapchat responded to by suspending Trump's account indefinitely.

But now, Snapchat has revealed that the suspension is no longer temporary. A Snapchat spokesperson told Axios that although Snapchat previously "announced an indefinite suspension of President Trump’s Snapchat account," it has since "been assessing what long term action is in the best interest of our Snapchat community."

After mulling over its options, Snapchat has decided to ban Trump for good. The spokesperson went on to explain the platform's decision, stating:

In the interest of public safety, and based on his attempts to spread misinformation, hate speech, and incite violence, which are clear violations of our guidelines, we have made the decision to permanently terminate his account.

Another source told Axios that President Trump was apparently warned "dozens of times" for content that violated Snapchat's policies. Whenever Trump posted something that didn't align with its policies, Snapchat would quickly remove the post, and then send a warning to Trump's team.

Other platforms have taken similar actions against President Trump. Twitter was the first social media platform to permanently ban President Trump's account. This was a monumental move, considering that Trump primarily used Twitter to communicate with his supporters.

Shortly after Twitter took action, so did Facebook. The platform not only indefinitely suspended Trump's account from both Facebook and Instagram, but it also wiped any mention of the phrase "stop the steal," which questions the integrity of the US presidential election.

Twitch also made the move to suspend Trump's account, and YouTube decided to suspend uploads to his account as well.

Will Trump Ever Make a Return to the Social Sphere?

With so many social media sites banning President Trump from ever returning to their platforms, it seems highly unlikely that Trump will ever make a reappearance.

Facebook, Instagram, Twitch, and YouTube may have only temporarily banned Trump, but he'll likely be under close watch. One wrong move, and Trump will probably be kicked off for good.

There's no doubt that Trump would've been welcomed back on Parler, a free speech social network favored by political conservatives. However, this platform has been booted by mobile app stores and its web host, rendering it useless.
