Snapchat is updating its service to make it easier to keep Snap Streaks going on the app, including both free and subscription-based options for users.

Snapchat Will Let You Restore, Freeze a Snap Streak

On 1 March 2023, the company announced in a Snap Newsroom post that it is testing the ability to restore one Streak for free in the app. If you want to restore more than one Snap Streak, users will be able to add more Streak Restores. While the company did not detail the exact process, it's likely that these additional restores will be available as in-app purchases.

In its post, Snap said that the feature would make it easier for users to take a break without sacrificing streaks. A Snap Streak requires you and a friend to both Snap each other within 24 hours for more than three consecutive days. Streaks do not take into account chat messages.

Many users attempt to keep a Snap Streak going. But previously, if you lost a day due to taking a break or service issues, you would have to contact support to restore your Snapchat streak.

The new feature will let you more easily restore a streak without needing to rely on Snapchat support.

In addition, Snapchat is planning to introduce an option to freeze streaks for Snapchat+ subscribers. According to the company, this will let users put their streaks on pause when they know that they're going to be off-grid or unavailable.

As Snap notes in its press release:

"Since 2016, Snapchatters have celebrated the friendships they nurture daily with Snap Streaks with pals near and far. But, life gets busy, camping trips and exams come up, and bad service or phones-down time means that sometimes you just need a day to pause."

Snapchat Streaks Will Be Easier to Maintain

The new feature will definitely take some of the inconvenience out of maintaining a Snap Streak. Meanwhile, Snap Streak freezes will add another motivator for users to sign up for a premium subscription.
