Snapchat is teaming up with everyone's favorite brand of colorful building sets to bring a new virtual experience to mobile.

Snapchat Unveils Its New Shared "Connected Lenses"

Snapchat is introducing Connected Lenses, a new type of augmented reality (AR) lens that allows you and your friends to experience the same AR experience at the same time—even if you're not in the same room.

The company's first Connected Lens was created in partnership with LEGO. In the demo video, you can see both users working on the same LEGO build. Any parts, effects, and animations added by either user will show up on both mobile devices in real time.

Snapchat first introduced its AR lenses in 2019 with Landmarkers, which adds interesting 3D effects to the architecture of some of the world's most iconic tourist spots.

Local Lenses were rolled out the year after that, presumably catching the eye of US president Joe Biden. After he and Kamala Harris were elected, he invited their supporters to join the inauguration through a Snapchat filter.

Build Your Own Lenses for Snapchat

Snapchat says that creators will also be able to build new Connected Lenses using Lens Studio, the company's free application for building AR experiences for the app. You can access the new LEGO Lens via LEGO’s Snapchat profile.
