Being a teacher isn’t easy, and making resources can be some of the most difficult work that you have to do. Printing tests can be time-consuming, difficult, and not to mention has an environmental impact as well.

If you want to share tests digitally, however, it can be overwhelming with all the different options available for you to choose from. Fortunately, you don’t have to trawl through all the available options yourself.

Here are four of the very best test and quiz makers available online.

1. ProProfs

First up on this list, we have ProProfs. ProProfs is an all-in-one solution to all of your testing, quizzing, and surveying needs.

If you’re not super comfortable making quizzes online or don’t feel that you’re particularly tech-savvy, then ProProfs is a great choice. At every step of the process, ProProfs has video and written tutorials available, as well as a direct customer support option in the bottom left of the screen.

Actually getting started with ProProfs is pretty straightforward. All you have to do is sign up for an account, which will give you a 15-day free trial to get a feel for their service. From there, there are a number of different plans you can choose from.

The actual test-making process couldn’t be easier. There are a huge number of different templates that you can choose from that take the pressure off of you to figure out exactly how it is that you want to structure your tests or quizzes.

These templates are broken up into various categories based on how they can be used and the type of quiz itself, though you can always just create a test from scratch if you’d prefer.

Once you start making your test, you’ll likely notice the sheer diversity available here in terms of question types for you to choose from. There are your basic multiple choice and checkbox options, as well as some more involved questions such as essays, matching, ordered lists, and many more.

What’s great here is that every question type has a sample question so that you can make sure that you fully understand how it’s meant to be used before continuing on.

Once you’ve made your test, you can adjust how it’s graded, how it’s ordered, and even how it looks. From there you can save and send the test out to all of your students or even other teachers if they want to give it a once over.

2. Topgrade

Next up on this list comes Topgrade, another excellent online test maker that’s a great tool in your arsenal. If you’re looking to expand into online quizzes, tests, surveys, and flashcards, then Topgrade’s an excellent tool for just that.

You’ll need to start off with Topgrade by signing up for an account, which can take a little bit of time. Once you’re done, though, you’re ready to start making resources. What’s great about Topgrade is that you’re not limited to just tests. They also have flashcard and survey options as well.

Just like these handy websites that create awesome worksheets, actually making a test is super simple. All you need to do is pick a name and category, and then you’re good to go. There are a lot of settings here, which can get a little overwhelming, but once you get familiar with the layout, there’s a lot you can accomplish.

The easiest place to start is by adding a question, which will take you to a new page where you can choose from a variety of different question types such as multiple choice, and true or false questions.

The variety here is admittedly a little limited, but there are plenty of options you can add on top such as timers for each question, extra explanation after a student’s answers, custom right and wrong images, and more.

One of the best parts of Topgrade, however, is how you can search through public resources, not just your own. If you’re looking for inspiration or just want to use an existing test as a base, you can do that easily in order to jump-start your own lesson plans.

3. EasyTestMaker

If you’re looking for something that’s a little easier to use, then EasyTestMaker does exactly what it says on the tin.

While a bit more pared back than some of the other test and quiz makers on this list, EasyTestMaker’s biggest strength is that its somewhat basic UI is anything but overwhelming.

All you have to do to get started is sign up for an account, and you’re good to go. From there, there is a pretty simple interface that allows you to create and then access tests that you’ve previously made.

As you make your very first test, there are plenty of tutorials to help you along your way, which is super handy if you’ve found some of the other entries on this list to be a little much.

There are seven different question types available for you to add, and once you’re done all you have to do is click a single button and your test is ready for others to take online. If you're looking for some of the best interactive apps for classrooms, then this is one great way to do that.

4. Socrative

Finally, we have Socrative. If you’d prefer something with a bit more polish, then Socrative might just be the way to go. Socrative’s UI looks great, and the entire service feels like a professional program that you can access entirely in your browser.

Getting started is pretty easy as well. All you have to do is sign up and then with a couple of clicks you’re ready to start making your tests and quizzes.

The question types available here are limited to multiple choice, true or false, and short answer questions, but the actual interface for adding all of these is phenomenal.

You can easily see what each answer is, how many points a question is worth, add images, and more just from the interface.

Don’t Waste Paper, Go Digital

As you can see, making tests online can be super simple to do. There are a huge variety of different services out there that aim to streamline the process however they can, whether that be through simple design, clean interfaces, or plenty of tutorials.

You can try any of these services for free, which is a great way to dip your toe in and see what you do and don’t like. After all, there’s nothing to lose with just giving it a shot.
