I have documents to upload onto Evernote, but I don't know how to share them with my colleagues. How do they get into my account to share the documents or do they create their own accounts and look via their own with a view into mine?

Add a document to a note.Right click, select "Share" - this allows you to share to email address.Alternatively, right click and select "copy note link" then send the copied note link to your team mates.Free users can view the shared items. Premium users can read & edit the shared items.

sharing and being able to collaborate on Evernote by multiple users , is i think an option in the premium version of Evernote .it has its restrictions in the free version .i think it is Read Only in free one ..see the attached capture for the option where it says " Sharing Options ."
