I have a 350MB file which I need to distribute to about 200 people or so. Usually I would of course send the file by eMail, but unfortunately GMail's limit is 25MB.
I know that there are thousands of filesharing sites out there, but which one allows me to upload the file for free and then send the link to all the 200 people? 200 times 350MB is quite a lot I guess, so which service allows me to do this?

I think Binfer will be most suited for your need. Here'w what you do:- Download and install from their website: http://www.binfer.com- Drag and drop your file,- Export your contacts to Outlook CSV and then import it into Binfer- Select the contacts and press send- Leave Binfer running and as your contacts come online [they need Binfer], your file will be send directly to your contacts computer.All transfers are AES encrypted and interrupted transfers will be automatically resumes.

But remember that with SkyDrive, you can only upload a file of up to 50MB, so you would have to split it somehow before that. Since most people have a Google Account, I'd second the person who suggested uploading the file to
Google Docs
and then sharing the private file link (as opposed to publishing it for the world to see.) You can find this private link when you click on Share at the top left when you're at
docs.google.com
and click on 'Get the link to share'. You could create a new/secondary Gmail/Google account for this purpose. You won't have to worry about whether the people you're sending your files to have the right software (if you're considering sharing by torrents). Neither will you have to worry about how to split files, or downloading additional software to share the file.

Emule is a good option too but like Bittorrent , they need to have the client and make the configuration which is easy .Any free file hosting which allow you to upload up to 400 mb and let you keep the download for some days will do .

Mediafire.com is a great file hosting site- sign up gives you advantage but you can probably do what you are talking about without signup. The main thing to keep in mind is that if someone gets a hold of the download link, they have access. So don't send proprietary work documents with it.

It might be best to just post the file up on a site and have others download it. Sites that you can use to accomplish this are MediaFire, YouSendIt, Megaupload, etc. Maybe you can post your file there and just email the link to everyone.

Given the size of the file and the fact that you want to send it, I recommend you DO NOT use torrent, which will tie up your computer and connection for a long time. The best solution would be to upload the material to a file sharing site like the ones recommended above, or [Broken URL Removed] and send the link to the recipients. You can also use DropBox as suggested above, but make sure that you send the link to the file on the dropbox web site since it's unlikely all your contact will have the dropbox application installed.

You could use a decent file sharing company like Mediafire (split into 100MB parts) or Megaupload. Both have respectable speeds. You might be able to use a web server if you have one, they normally only run about $10/month. Bittorrent is a good option if you can talk people into using it to get your file.

Wuala might work too. They give you storage to upload files. Others can download them and choose to share them, it's a combination of P2P and hosted file sharing.

Hi Tilman,You could try to upload the file via torrrent protocol. Any decent torrent client will allow you to do this ("File - Create Torrent File" menu; or something similar to that). Then all you've got to do is send the 200 people the torrent file.Just make sure that your computer is always connected to the net and ask those 200 people to seed as long as they can.

That's the fastest and easiest solution in my opinion. The only downsie the people receiving the file need to have a torrent client (ex. utorrent) installed and know how to use it (very easy but still).

Use "Bittorrent"! Or you can split that file into pieces less than 200 MB each using a software like "hjsplit" or "winrar", upload them to free file hosting sites like "mediafire" or "goaruna" and then send a batch e-mail to the 200 people, containing those links. :)

Tilman,it's definitely not a good idea to eMail such a large file to anyone. If GMail's sending limit is lower, just imagine what people's receiving limit may be, i.e. quite possibly a lot lower!Besides, even if most people can receive and download the file, it's quite frustrating to have such a huge file in your eMail, blocking your eMail client or internet connection, while it's busy downloading that huge attachment.Filesharing appears to be the only sensible option. We have written about filesharing before. Unfortunately, most services impose a size limit on file uploads.Try DivShare. It comes without upload or download limits. However, you have to sign up.
