Where I work we have laptops on carts that get moved all over the place. We have USB keyboards, mice, and bar-code scanners plugged into them.
The trouble is that the weight of the cords that hang from the laptops have caused the USB ports to loosen up. Now we have to constantly unplug and replug things to get them to work.
Is there any way to secure the cords to keep them from moving and losing connectivity? These are all business class HP laptops.

You could also invest in a multi-USB port for each laptop. Connect the multi-port to the laptop, strap, tape or glue the multi-port to the cart on which the laptop sits and then connect the devices to that port. That way the laptop ports don't wear out and it's easier to tape the loose device cables to the port or cart than to the laptop.

This is not a bad idea. We had talked about usb splitters, but were concerned about them having the same if not worse problems due to the added weight.

A little bit of hot glue would hold them in. When you want to remove them you'd have to pick the glue off and they'd come right out.** Dab around the outside of the port after the device is plugged in
