There are two ways to save an email from Gmail to Google Photos. The first one is saving the image directly from inside the email, and, secondly, from a photo preview.

Save Gmail Images to Google Photos From Inside an Email

  1. Go to Gmail, and find an email with a JPEG photo inside.
  2. Open the email and navigate to the attachment section.
  3. Hover your mouse over the image, then click the Save to Photos button.

  1. Go to the email with the JPEG attachment.
  2. Tap the image, then select the three-dot menu on the top right.
  3. Click on Save to Photos.
  4. Click Save on the pop-up dialog box.

The pop-up dialog box will appear just once, the next time you save an image to Google Photos, you won't see it. The date of the image will be set to when the image was added to Google Photos, rather than when it was taken. You can always change the photo's date in Google Photos.
