Samsung has a new tool that's designed to solicit iPhone owners over the Galaxy side of the Android vs. iPhone equation.

The new interactive web-based experience is called iTest. It's designed to let Apple fans try out Android on a Samsung Galaxy device directly from their iOS device's web browser. It's being advertised in New Zealand, as spotted by a MacRumors reader, but you can try it anywhere.

Of course, it's completely free to examine, so if you're even remotely curious about what a Samsung phone feels like, there's no reason not to give it a try.

What Does Samsung iTest Let You Do?

Once you visit the iTest website on an iOS device, it'll prompt you to add the web application to your device's home screen. You will need to use Safari, as I first visited the page through Google Chrome on my device, and it prompted me to switch to Safari.

Once you open the iTest site in mobile Safari and add it to your home screen, you can launch it and freely navigate around a simulated version of the Galaxy interface.

The app points out that it "can't replicate every function, but you should quickly see that there's nothing daunting about switching to the other side."

And Samsung is correct, as you won't get the full experience, but you can most certainly get a feel for what a Galaxy device feels like. There are all sorts of apps and options that you can tweak, just like you would with an actual phone.

As you play around with the OS, you'll get some simulated text messages and phone calls that help walk you through the experience.

You can launch most of the apps that appear in the UI. You can even load up some photos and see what sorts of editing you can do (you can't actually edit the photos, but you can see what editing features are available).

If you don't like the way the OS looks, you can hit the Themes app and actually skin your phone in a few different looks.

Not only is this a useful way to try out One UI, but it's also relatively entertaining, as Samsung manages to squeeze quite a few jokes into the experience. I won't spoil them here, but as you explore, you'll definitely get a chuckle here and there.

Give it a Try

No matter how loyal you are to iPhone (my first was the iPhone 3G), it's always fun to play around with a new operating system, and this cool web app gives you the chance to do just that without spending any money or doing anything potentially damaging to your phone.
