Roku has announced that 30 of its Roku Originals will be available on The Roku Channel for free on May 20.

What Are Roku Originals?

As we previously reported, Roku Originals is what Quibi's shows have been rebranded to.

Quibi was a short-lived streaming platform that created shows designed to be viewed on a smartphone. When it closed, Roku acquired the content, and it's this which is launching under the Roku Originals banner.

The Roku Originals include shows such as About Face, Dishmantled, Murder Unboxed, and Thanks a Million. There are lots of famous names involved such as Kevin Hart, Joe Jonas, Liam Hemsworth, and Anna Hendrick.

30 Roku Originals will launch on May 20, though the company plans to release all 75 shows eventually. They will air on The Roku Channel for free, joining the over 25,000 movies and TV episodes already available there, and be supported by ads—though apparently with only one minute of advertising per episode.

One of the selling points of Quibi was that you could watch the content in portrait mode. Roku has done away with that, since this is designed for TV viewing, and everything will stream at 1080p.

Endless Free Entertainment on Roku

It's great that all this original content is finding another home on Roku. Best of all? You don't need a subscription to enjoy it. Roku offers a bunch of great free channels, meaning you've got hundreds of hours of entertainment right at your fingertips for no expense.
