Check out MacX DVD Ripper & Converter or Handbrake . Just choose iPad as the output device, instead of iPod so the converter/ripper can resize it properly.

I prefer FairUse. It automatically rips any dvd in your library to and avi, or other format that you choose. For greater control follow up with Hamster Video Converter. Both piece are free, but can cost for extra features. Both are fairly automatic but can be set for manual use and, in my experience, both work wonderfully. One caveat, FairUse 1 doesn't like Disney movies, though I'm not sure about FU2.

Interesting initials for "Fair Use"... I wonder if that was on purpose.

I like to use DVD Decrypter to remove copy protection. It will copy the exact contents of the DVD to a folder on your HDD after removing the copy protection, it's also free. Once you have it decrypted you can run it through HandBrake to pick out the audio and video and choose what format to convert it to.Alernatives:AnyDVD HD - Removes copy protection without the need to copy the DVD to your hard drive. This way you can convert off the DVD directly, skipping a step. It's $39.95 though.AutoGK - A toolkit for converting DVD files to AVIs. Has some very high quality options, but less formats and takes longer than HandBrake. Free.

Besides these conversion tools, you can use DVD43 , which decrypts DVDs. I use it to make backup copies of DVDs I've bought and have scratched sections.

Regarding the DVD43, is there an option to backup DVDs in different formats i.e. AVI, MPEG etc.Aibek

Not that I know of. It simply makes the DVD readable (it removes copy-protection) so Handbrake can convert it to MP4 or MKV.

It was just today that I was pondering the morality of such a task. Here's the article I wrote about it:http://timmyjohnboy.com/2010/10/21/is-it-ok-to-convert-a-dvd-to-another-format-for-personal-use/In the article I mentioned a program called ImToo. I haven't tried it yet but it supposedly has the ability to convert into many different video formats.

The best programs I've found to do this job are not free. My personal favorite is DVDFab's DVD Ripper, which can convert video to pretty much all popular formats and it also includes presets for many devices. My absolute favorite feature about it is that it's fast. Converting a 90 minute movie from AVI to M4V for my iPod Touch took less than 10 minutes on my laptop. DVDFab will set you back $50 though. http://www.dvdfab.com/dvd-ripper.htm WinX DVD Ripper Platinum also looks really nice with plenty of features. It has a lower price tag of $29.95, but from what I can tell, it lacks the capability of converting digital formats into another digital format, such as from AVI to M4V... only from DVD to other formats. I could be wrong about this though
http://www.winxdvd.com/dvd-ripper-platinum /If you want something free, you'll have to limit your requirements a bit. Personally, I prefer doing these types of conversions with Handbrake. It's pretty much limited to converting to MP4/M4V or MKV. It's reasonably fast, but not as fast as DVDFab. I prefer this over DVDFab because it has an easy queue manager and easy preset creation and tweaks. I also use this more often because it is cross-platform and I mostly do my video tasks in Ubuntu. http://handbrake.fr /
