How can I get rid of programs that are no longer needed in Windows XP?

In windows, you'd want to go to Add/Remove Programs. Goto Start > Control Panel > Add/Remove Programs. You could also type appwiz.cpl in the Run box (Start > Run) and press OK. Also, if you want to do a thorough removal of applications, you could try using IOBit Uninstaller and Revo Uninstaller. Both of these are free.

I recommend using uninstaller app instead of Window's "Add/Remove". The one that I use is "Revo Uninstaller" (http://www.makeuseof.com/tag/revo-uninstaller-will-hunt-down-your-bloatware/)Also check out this article by Stefan: http://www.makeuseof.com/tag/how-to-uninstall-applications-efficiently-and-remove-obsolete-files/

If you are experiencing a slow computer, you can also go to Start, Run, and type in msconfig. Then go to the Startup tab and deselect any programs that you do not want to run upon booting your computer. A lot of times, programs will start automatically when you first boot Windows and this will cause your computer to slow down.
