Please can anyone advise me of a simple, preferably free, system for removing duplicate photos?

I had a problem on my Mac and every time someone sent me an eMail with photo attachments, the photos were saved nine times in iPhotos! I can only seem to remove them individually, which will take me about 100 years to do. Any help most gratefully received.

try this: SELECT all of the pics on the screen that U want to DELETE (if they are all adjacent, U can HOLD DOWN SHIFT KEY & CLICK on the FIRST and LAST pic of the group to select the whole group.... if they aren't adjacent, HOLD DOWN COMMAND KEY while U CLICK on EACH that U want to delete. While U have the rejects on that screen ALL SELECTED, DRAG ONE TO THE TRASH CAN. The rest should go along for the ride to the trash. Remember to EMPTY the TRASH in FINDER MENU occasionally so it doesn't slow things down.

I found a previous topic here on MUO about how to delete duplicates where the following tool was suggested: http://www.rhythmiccanvas.com/software/iphotodiet/(Source: http://www.makeuseof.com/answers/delete-duplicate-photos-iphoto/)Other than that I only know of a commercial software for removing duplicateshttp://www.brattoo.com/propaganda/#duplicate_annihilatorIn any case I recommend to backup your entire iPhoto Library before deleting photos:- open a new Finder window or double-click on your hard drive- go to /Users/yourusername/Pictures- Copy the "iPhoto Library" to a safe location
