Would like to work remotely. Would like to control / access applications on the home computer, but be able to print locally.

I agree with Mike, I'm a huge fan of free to use TeamViewer. I've never tried the others, as once I used TV I knew that it was 'the one'. In case you don't like TV, check out some related articles.  Related Articles: 7 easy Screen-Sharing and Remote-Access Tools (All Free) Is TightVNC Really More Tight Than Other VNC Clients?

Hello, as long as the printer is shared in your network, you could also use Live Mesh:http://windows.microsoft.com/en-US/windows/explore/access-your-pc-from-anywhereFrom the ones mentioned before, I always go back to using Teamviewer.  UltraVnc is pretty good and free:http://www.uvnc.com/home.html

As for the remote control software you can make your pick: TeamViewer , GoToAssist , LogMeIn Pro , Mikigo  ...As for printing a remote document on a local printer I only know of LogMeIn Pro supporting it by default. For the others they only state to support "printing a local document on a remote printer". But you could probably setup a secure connection via VPN or Hamachi , share your local printer and install it on the remote machine.
