I have a Windows 7 64-bit Dell Inspiron 14z Ultrabook with a weird hard disk and SSD configuration, in which I want to install Windows 8.1.

Does anyone know if just a plain format with a Windows disk will do the trick?

I'm not sure what you mean by "hard disk and SSD configuration", but you should be able to install 8.1 either as an upgrade or as a clean install.

you can use windows 8.1 dvd and choose the option keep nothing, so all your files and windows will be deleted and windows 8.1 will be installed.
