Reddit has finally shared its daily user count with the world. The platform reportedly has 52 million daily active users, which is relatively small in comparison to other major social networks like Twitter and Facebook.

Reddit's "Small" But Growing User Count

52 million daily users may seem like a large number, but it's merely a fraction of what Snapchat, Facebook, and Twitter have. While Facebook currently has a whopping 1.82 billion daily users, Snapchat has 249 million and Twitter has 187 million.

In a report by The Wall Street Journal, Reddit told the outlet that its daily user count has increased by 44 percent since last year. This is a major jump that shows that the platform is really taking off.

Although Reddit has revealed its monthly numbers in the past, it has never shared its daily user count. The decision to go public with its daily user count had to do with advertising. Jen Wong, the CEO of Reddit, explained this in further detail in The Wall Street Journal's report, stating:

We’re sharing [daily active users] for the first time as a more accurate reflection of our user growth and to be more in-line with industry reporting. We’re focused on daily usership and increasing this number as we continue to grow our community and scale our advertising business.

Wong also noted that the site's ad revenue is supposed to spike by 70 percent in 2020, even with the financial setbacks caused by the COVID-19 pandemic.

It's clear that Reddit has been trying to make the platform attractive for both users and advertisers. In 2018, Reddit underwent a major redesign, which cleaned up and modernized the site's interface. The platform even rolled out a new polling feature in early 2020, demonstrating its dedication to keeping the platform up-to-date.

Reddit hasn't only been focusing on the looks of its site either. It also begun cracking down on hate speech, resulting in the ban of the political subreddit, r/The_Donald. Advertisers have expressed concern over being associated with hateful content, which may be one of the driving forces behind the crackdown.

Reddit Is Set Up for a Future of Success

With the way that Reddit has been growing, it'll surely rack up even more daily users in the near future. It might not reach the status of Facebook in the coming years, but it will definitely gain enough momentum to compete.

The best part about Reddit is that it has something for everyone. The sheer volume of subreddits on the platform make it diverse enough for anyone to enjoy.
