How can I I recover information from a corrupt USB? I have tried running it to check the disk, but the prompt response reads: "Cannot open volume for direct access." I need to use the information urgently. Please help!

Maybe it's simply broken beyond repair. If the data is very important, you may still find someone who can recover it with the right tools. If your data is so important that you're willing to pay for this service, you should consider it before breaking the drive even more.

Nana, not all unreadable flash drive conditions are caused by corruption. There are a lot of issues that can cause your computer to no longer read flash drives. A very common reason would be a virus.I make it policy to ask people, who have told me their flash drive has died, to try that same drive on another computer. You'd be surprised how often this works. Here's why:Viruses disable flash drives to stop technicians from running portable anti-virus software. They also sometimes spread through flash drives, so you have to be careful if you try to test your drive on another computer.I would consider: (1) disabling the "auto-run" feature [http://support.microsoft.com/kb/967715] on a different computer and (2) trying your drive on that computer. Just make sure autorun is disabled, or your flash drive might spread an infection.
