As the title says I'm looking for a very stripped down email client for Windows 7.

- small (at best only an executable)

- no requirements like Cygwin, Perl, Java, ...

- IMAP support if possible

- preferably text only

- preferably portable

It doesn't need to be an active or recent project. I don't mind if it's years old as long as it works (native or compatibility mode).

One example of what I'm looking for would be Mutt - www.mutt.org

But the Windows port requires Cygwin and Perl what I'm [as previously mentioned] don't really want to install.

http://www.washington.edu/alpine/acquire/Scroll down to the Windows section. There is an executable, which installs the program and a zip file which contains standalone binaries. The download itself is less than 3 MB, so it should satisfy your size requirement. If you want to avoid an installer, download the alpine-2.00-wnt.zip archive. The project itself is free to use, and it is open source.
