I'm after a print on demand site which would let me make my own playing-card sized cards, each card having a different picture on one side and different print on the other. Moo comes to mind, but it seems to allow only one-sided differences. Any suggestions?

Google the company and website name of The Game Crafter. They are print on demand for card deck playing card games but you can customize both sides of the card.

Christine,if you would like to receive specific recommendations for print shops that can help you with your project, you should specify your location or at least your country.

You're looking for the wrong thing; print on demand services are for self-publishing books, and that's not what you're doing. Moo is primarily a printer of business cards. What you should be looking for is a service bureau that offers digital printing.Once you find one, you need to find out if they can do two-sided prints in alignment; then you can design your cards to fit one or more 8.5 x 11 inch pages, and have them printed on card stock. You may have to trim them out of the paper yourself.
