I am wondering if anyone knows of a loop utility browser similar to the one found in Apple Logic or Iced Audio but free?
Basically I am looking for a tool that will let me tag audio files with various notes, i.e. drum, funky, soft, hard, guitar etc, which you can then use to browse the results later to make a shortlist. Thanks!

It's not ideal, but if you select an audio file and go to Get Info there should be a window in which you can enter tags which will be indexed for Spotlight searches. You could enter guitar, key of A, loop, etc. and then use Spotlight to crawl through a directory of your audio files to find what you're looking for. It's built right into the OS. If you want to spend money you could look to a solution like Soundminer: http://store.soundminer.com/
