myself), I haven't found any misleading or incorrect information from W3Schools. The examples W3Fools provide are trivial and would typically only matter on unsupported browsers. It's great to encourage your users to enforce good syntax, but on a beginner this is just more red tape that 'hampers their ability to learn'. I suggest to learn the technology with a conscious understanding that there are better ways of writing the code. Once you understand the concept, then worry about making your code tidy.
