Apple TV+ is the streaming service from Apple that launched in November 2019. While it's not as popular as the likes of Netflix or Disney+, it's still worth considering signing up to Apple TV+.

Whether you want to watch exclusives like The Morning Show and Ted Lasso, or are drawn in by the cheap price, there are plenty of reasons why you should sign up to Apple TV+.

1. You Can Watch Original Movies and TV Shows

The main reason that you should subscribe to Apple TV+ is the great exclusive movies and TV shows it has, created by big names like Oprah Winfrey and Steven Spielberg.

A full list of all Apple Originals can be viewed on the Apple TV+ website. Some of the great shows you can watch on Apple TV+ are:

  • Bad Sisters: Five siblings undergo investigation after their brother-in-law ends up dead, in a show that perfectly blends dark humor with drama.
  • Dickinson: A weird, coming-of-age comedy about poet Emily Dickinson, starring the always-excellent Hailee Steinfeld.
  • Severance: In this mysterious and quirky thriller, Adam Scott plays a man who has undergone a procedure to separate his work memories from everything else.
  • Ted Lasso: Jason Sudeikis plays the titular role of an American college football coach who optimistically tries to lead an English soccer team.

The only way to watch these shows is on Apple TV+. They aren't on other streaming services, nor available to purchase physically.

2. You Can Watch Exclusive Licensed Content

When Apple TV+ began, the only things you could watch were Apple Originals. Unlike Netflix or Hulu, which mixes original content with stuff from third-parties, Apple was focused entirely on its own productions.

However, that changed in May 2020 when Apple began to acquire a handful of old content to bulk its catalog. So far, Apple is only acquiring third-party content that it can make exclusively available on Apple TV+. That includes the original Fraggle Rock TV series and various animated Peanuts specials, which you won't find on other streaming services.

While the catalog is much smaller than that of its competitors, Apple TV+ still offers a unique selling point by hosting exclusive licensed content.

3. It's Cheap and Sometimes Free

For many, Apple TV+ will be completely free for three months because it comes as part of a purchase of Apple devices like the iPhone, iPad, or Mac. Apple also often offers other methods to get Apple TV+ for free through promotions with partners like LG and T-Mobile.

Even outside those deals, the service is very affordable. It costs $4.99/month following a seven-day free trial.

Alternatively, you can get it as part of Apple One, which bundles together various Apple services and starts at $14.95/month with a one-month free trial.

4. There Are No Adverts

Unlike services such as Hulu, with Apple TV+ there are no ad-supported plans. Besides, why should you pay for a service to then have to see adverts?

Wherever you watch Apple TV+, you won't get any adverts and Apple claims this is always going to the case.

5. You Can Share Your Account

Thanks to Apple's Family Sharing feature, you can share your Apple TV+ access with up to five other people.

Of course, Apple sells this feature on the idea that you can invite your family members from the same household, but you could equally use it with friends too.

This means that six people can pay for a single Apple TV+ account and share the benefits. You won't be limited either, since the service also allows for six simultaneous streams.

6. It's Available on Many Devices

A streaming service is pretty useless if you can't watch it on your favorite device. Happily, Apple TV+ continues to roll out to a growing number of devices.

Of course, you can watch on all your Apple products, including Apple TV, iPhone, iPad, Mac, and via AirPlay.

You can also watch on your PC, via Roku, Fire TV, some Samsung and LG smart TVs, and games consoles like the PS4, PS5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S.

Unfortunately, there is no Android mobile app, but that's to be expected from a streaming service made by the creators of the iPhone.

7. It Streams High-Quality Video and Audio

Providing you have the gear that supports it, Apple TV+ streams in 4K, HDR, Dolby Vision and Dolby Atmos. Unlike other services like Netflix that make you pay for the privilege of high-quality streams, Apple TV+ provides this as part of its single membership tier.

8. You Can Download and Watch Offline

Everything on Apple TV+ can be downloaded for offline viewing. This means that if you're going on a trip and will be without an internet connection, you can still enjoy its content.

All you need to do is download the show or movie ahead of time on your iPhone, iPad, iPod Touch, or Mac. The only limit is the amount of space your device has.

To find your downloads, go to the Library tab and select Downloaded.

9. It's Available in Many Countries

Chances are, Apple TV+ is available in your location, since it's supported in over 100 countries. There are a few notable exceptions from that list, including Turkey and South Korea, but Apple plans to expand worldwide.

Unlike other streaming services that are bound by local licensing restrictions, the majority of the content on Apple TV+ is original and exclusive. That means no matter where you are in the world, you can enjoy everything that Apple TV+ has to offer.

What Other Streaming Services Are Better?

While Apple TV+ is a great streaming service, it isn't for everyone. If you're a speedy watcher, you'll soon find yourself without anything left to watch. In that case, it might be worth signing up to Apple TV+ for a couple of months and then moving elsewhere.

And there are loads of other streaming services you could choose. Whether it's free services like Crackle and The Roku Channel, or paid services like HBO Max and Disney+, there's bound to be a platform that suits your needs.
