If you were expecting 100 percent gaming gear announcements from Razer at CES 2021, then you were very much mistaken. Good-guy Razer has teased an exciting prototype at CES 2021 that has nothing to do with computers.

Well... almost nothing.

Razer Shows off Latest Concept: Project Hazel

CES 2021 is rife with COVID-related tech, among other things. However, we can't imagine anyone was expecting Razer to jump on the health-tech bandwagon at this year's virtual expo.

However, it has, as it launches its COVID-concept, Project Hazel. What we are looking at here is a design for a high-spec facemask, complete with several bells and whistles you might have come to expect from Razer.

At least Razer has revealed a gaming chair concept as well, to keep its fans happy with something that might actually come to fruition.

What Is Project Hazel?

Project Hazel is the codename Razer has given to the concept facemask it has exhibited at CES 2021.

According to Razer, this is the "world's smartest mask". So what makes this stand out from the billions of other facemasks on the market?

It is a surgical N95 mask, so nothing really groundbreaking there. The mask also has active ventilation via what appears to be valves on either side of the mask. Again, fairly normal.

However, Razer claims that the mask has an "auto-sterilization function". You will theoretically be able to clean your mask in the charging case (yes, you need to charge this mask), which uses UV to, apparently, kill bacteria and viruses.

The mask will also make use of Razer's patent-pending voice amplification tech, so you can make yourself heard more easily when wearing a mask.

The body of the mask itself is also clear. This is great for people who rely on lip reading to converse.

Obviously, you can also tailor your mask with Razer Chroma RGB lights, which (looking at the concept art) surround the respiration valves on either side. Obviously this is of crucial importance when you're dodging life-threatening viruses as they fly through the air around you.

Razer's Coronavirus Facemask Concept

At this stage, this is only a concept, but it isn't the first time Razer has ventured into facemask territory. Razer truly has proved itself to be a good guy by helping. CES 2021 doesn't have to all be about Razer's new gaming laptops, you know.

At the start of the COVID pandemic, Razer donated over 1 million masks, which is astonishing when you consider some countries' governments couldn't find any...

Razer customers have also donated over 100,000 masks to the cause as well. This is a brilliant example, not just of what a gaming community can really do to help in a time of crisis, but what any community can do if they put their mind to it.
