The Current Way to Restore Closed Tabs in Chrome

Currently, to restore a closed tab in Chrome, you need to navigate to the History menu and choose the tab to be restored. This then opens your chosen tab in your current Chrome window.

Chrome offers a keyboard shortcut as well to perform that task, but that's one more thing to learn.

An Easy Way to Restore Closed Tabs in Chrome

According to a Chromium Gerrit code, Google is working on a feature to make restoring closed tabs easier. This feature will be integrated into the tab search feature, and you'll be able to view as well as re-open all of your recently closed tabs with this feature.

The feature is available in Chrome's Canary build right now, and you can get this build to try the feature out for yourself.

How to Quickly Restore Closed Tabs in Google Chrome

There's no flag or settings option you need to enable to use this new feature. As long as you have Chrome Canary installed on your computer, you can give this new feature a try.

The following shows how you do just that:

  1. Launch Chrome Canary on your computer.
  2. Open a few tabs and then close some of them.
  3. Click the tab search option, which looks like a down-arrow icon, at the top-right of the Chrome window.
  4. You can now see your closed tabs in the Recently Closed Tabs section. Click any tab to restore it in Chrome.

Right-clicking tabs in this list doesn't do anything, which indicates there's no option to remove tabs from this list. However, that might change when this feature rolls out to stable Chrome builds.
