Charging your phone and backing up your photos no longer have to be two separate processes. At the virtual CES 2021 event, the Taiwan-based company, Maktar, presented a device that does just that.

The device, called Qubii, is an adapter that plugs into your phone charger, allowing you to charge your phone and store photos at the same time.

Qubii Gets Two Tasks Done Simultaneously

Qubii is a viable solution for anyone who doesn't want to resort to using cloud storage. As you probably know, you often have to pay for cloud storage, and it's not the most secure.

Qubii offers a different approach, and the device itself is extremely simple. It resembles a USB phone charger, and comes with a slot for an SD card.

To get started with Qubii, all you have to do insert an SD card into the device, and then plug it into your phone charger. From there, attach your phone, and it'll automatically start getting to work.

While your phone charges, all of your latest photos will be transferred over to the SD card. If you want to manage your photos further, you can download the Qubii app for Android or iOS.

The app can access the photos on your SD card, and will immediately start organizing them by date. It also supports up to 2TB of storage, and comes with a handy micro SD lock that lets you create a password to prevent anyone from accessing your photos. And if your phone has Face ID and Touch ID, the Qubii app is compatible with that as well.

Alternatively, the device also allows you to easily upload your pictures to your computer. Simply plug Qubii into the USB port on your computer, and it'll start transferring your pictures.

Maktar also offers the Qubii Duo. This package comes with a combination of the USB-C version of the Qubii device, an 18W USB-C power adapter, as well as a USB-C cable. The advantage of the full package is that it comes with complete USB-C support. This means that it will charge your phone faster, and the photo/video transfer process will also be sped up.

How Does Qubii Stack Up?

The Qubii can definitely be a viable alternative to cloud storage systems. With only a one-time payment to purchase the device, you won't be stuck paying monthly subscription fees to cloud storage providers.

For the regular Qubii without an SD card, you can expect to pay $39.99. With a 128GB SD card, the Qubii costs $69.99.
