If you've been having issues with upgrading your PS4 games to their PS5 counterparts, then your luck is in. The latest PS5 update sets out to solve your problem.

PS5 System Update Solves PS4 Game-Upgrade Issue

You'll undoubtedly have noticed that your PS5 has recently received a system update. Alongside the usual vague improvements to "system performance", the PS5 has also had an important update to how it handles PS4 game-upgrades.

Update 20.02-02.50.00 resolves a bug whereby gamers who had upgraded their PS4 disc-version games to PS5 counterparts, found that the PS4 version of the game would still install from the game disc. This, despite now owning a legitimate PS5 version of the game.

While there are plenty of PS4 games that work on the PS5 (and some PS4 titles that don't work on PS5), there isn't an abundance of PS4 games that have received the full PS5 upgrade treatment.

How Do You Get the Latest Update?

If you have auto-updates turned on, then you don't need to do anything apart from switch your PS5 on. If it was in rest mode, then the likelihood is that the PS5 has already downloaded and installed the latest update automatically.

If you don't have auto-updates switched on, then you'll need to head to Go to Settings > System > System Software > System Software Update and Settings > Update System Software. From here you can check if you need to update your PS5.
