You can do much more with your PlayStation 5 than just play games. There is a whole range of apps available on the PS5 that you can download for free from the PS Store.

If you want to turn your PS5 into the ultimate entertainment system, you'll want to download these apps.

1. Spotify

You can download Spotify from the PS Store and use it to listen to your favorite artists while you game. Slay your enemies and hunt for collectibles while your favorite playlists play. Just don't use Spotify when you're playing a story-based game and going through cutscenes and doing main missions...that's strange.

You can control Spotify from a different device while it's on your PS5. So rather than having to pause your game and go to the app to change a song or alter the volume, you can simply do it from your phone, laptop, or tablet. Even better if you put on a playlist, that way you won't have to keep going back and forth to change the song. You can use a bunch of Spotify playlist tips and tricks to get more out of the service.

2. Plex

You can use Plex to watch media from either its server or you and your friends' libraries of content that are being hosted on Plex. It has an intuitive UI and allows you to categorize your different media however you like, making navigation quick and easy.

Just be careful about how you use Plex. Plex is legal, but if you're using it to watch torrented media, that's not legal. It's worth mentioning that PS5 monitors what you do on the console, so you want to avoid any potential consequences down the line.

3. Netflix

The classic. Netflix is, of course, available on the PS5. You can watch your favorite TV shows and movies on Netflix right from your PS5 for those times when you just want to veg out on the couch and not do anything.

If you don't know already, Netflix has a range of mobile games available. Perhaps in the future, you could see Netflix releasing games to the PS5. Until then, you'll have to settle for the original Netflix app.

4. YouTube

Perfect for when you want to watch something fairly non-committal while eating your lunch, YouTube is a great platform that needs no introduction. You can download YouTube on your PS5 from the PS Store, and get to watch your favorite channels whenever you need to kill some time.

Perhaps you're someone who prefers watching longer, more educational videos on YouTube? In which case, that's cool too, there's a market for that. YouTube is full of people around the world posting their content for you to enjoy online, and naturally, they take on a much less corporate style than you'd get from TV shows and films.

5. Amazon Prime Video

You're certainly spoiled for choice when it comes to entertainment platforms on the PS5, with Amazon Prime Video also available on the console. As with Netflix and Disney+, Amazon Prime Video has plenty of shows that are exclusive to its platform and created by it. Most notably The Boys and The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power, which you should definitely check out. Its impressive catalog makes it one of the best alternatives to Netflix.

If you already have Amazon Prime, then you'll already have a subscription to Amazon Prime Video as part of your subscription. If not, unfortunately, it'll be another subscription for you if you want to enjoy the content available on the platform.

6. NOW TV

NOW TV is yet another entertainment platform filled with TV shows and movies for you to enjoy. NOW TV has plenty of different packages available, so you can pick and choose which one you want based on what you're most likely to watch. For instance, NOW TV Entertainment Membership gives you access to Sky One, Sky Atlantic, Sky History, Sky Nature, and more.

On the other hand, a NOW Sports subscription will give you access to the various Sky Sports channels, if you're someone who would rather watch soccer, WWE, boxing, and more.

7. BBC iPlayer

BBC iPlayer hosts all the shows and movies distributed or made by BBC as well as any it owns the rights to host. BBC iPlayer has a lot of British shows that may seem a little different than what you're used to, but with shows like Sherlock, Doctor Who, Line of Duty, and more it is worth checking out.

If you're in the US, you'd have to use a VPN to access BBC iPlayer but beware of the potential consequences that could come from this.

8. Disney+

Disney+ is perhaps the biggest streaming service around, owing to its extensive hard-hitting catalog full of Disney exclusives. Not only does the platform have an array of Disney content, but it also hosts Star, which tends to have grittier shows and movies aimed at adults.

Disney+ is affordable and allows you to have multiple profiles for each account, with no restrictions for each profile on having to have the same IP address or anything like that.

9. Crunchyroll

If you're the type of person that prefers watching anime rather than live-action, then Crunchyroll is definitely the app for you. Filled with an extensive catalog of anime shows and movies, you'll have plenty to catch up on through the app. It has an affordable pricing package, but you can use a free trial to begin with if you're not sure if you'll get enough out of it.

Crunchyroll has quite an affordable pricing plan and is one of the best anime streaming services available, so you should definitely check it out if you're into this type of media.
