If you just splurged your hard-earned cash on any of Samsung's Galaxy S23 series phones, it's important to protect your investment from damage. While smartphones are slowly improving in durability against drops and scratches, they're not yet totally safe if you drop them.

It's, therefore, your responsibility to ensure that your Galaxy S23 device is safe from scratches and drop damage.

Does Dropping Your Galaxy S23 Phone Damage It?

The short answer is yes. Your Galaxy S23 is susceptible to damage when you drop it. Although Samsung uses Corning's latest and greatest Gorilla Glass Victus 2 at the back and front of each S23 model, it's not completely resistant to drop damage.

According to Corning, Gorilla Glass Victus 2 can withstand drops of up to 3.28 feet on hard surfaces like concrete and 6.56 feet on asphalt-like surfaces. But of course, don't just take lab tests at face value. Real-world conditions can be harsh, and you'll be surprised that your device sustains more damage even within the said ranges.

To see this in action, Allstate Protection Plans on YouTube did exactly that, subjecting all Galaxy S23 models to a drop test from 6 feet up.

The base model had loose, raised, and shattered glass on the front, while the back had its glass cracked and raised, with the frame sustaining some damage as well.

The S23+'s front glass was also cracked and raised after the first drop, while its frame sustained minor damages because it made contact with the ground while falling. The back sustained so-called hairline cracks, and the frame was also affected.

The S23 Ultra was the hero among the lineup, sustaining just hairline cracks and a cracked frame edge on the front. However, the front-down drop shattered the main camera lens making it unusable.

3 Ways to Protect Your Galaxy S23 From Drop Damage

While the degree of damage varied across the three devices, with the S23 Ultra sustaining the least harm (although landing on one of its edges helped), it's important to ensure your device is always protected.

Here are three ways of protecting your S23 from drop damage:

1. Dress Your Device With a Robust Case

One way to protect your device is by dressing it up in a case. A case helps absorb some or all of the impact and can shield the device from drop damage in most cases. While it's debatable whether you should pick a hard or a soft case for your smartphone, combined ones are available that provide the best of both worlds.

Your preference may vary, but it's important to look for a case made for your Galaxy S23 so that it fits perfectly. Also, you should consider a case that protrudes above the screen, ensuring your screen is protected if your device falls face-first.

We recommend selecting a flip-style case if you need maximum protection from your case. Flip-style cases are, admittedly, not the prettiest to use (and can be bulky), but they will protect both the back and front of your Galaxy S23 smartphone.

2. Use a Screen Protector

A major point of weakness is the screen. A flip case can help shield the screen, but adding a screen protector is important if your device drops face-first with the screen exposed. Besides, there are more advantages to applying a screen protector to your phone.

Screen protectors aren't expensive, but you must apply them carefully to avoid annoying air bubbles between the protector and your device screen. It can seem hard, but here's a step-by-step guide on how to apply a screen protector on your smartphone.

3. Shield Your Camera Lens with Camera Lens Protectors

Like other smartphones, Samsung uses glass to protect its camera lenses. The safety of your camera lens is not something you'd normally think of. Still, as demonstrated by Allstate Protection Plans' drop test, your lens can be rendered unusable if not protected upon dropping. Using a camera lens protector can help protect against that.

Keep Your Galaxy S23 in Pristine Condition

As of writing, Samsung charges $174, $194, and $259 to replace the screen on the Galaxy S23, S23+, and S23 Ultra screens, respectively. It's not cheap, so taking care of your Galaxy S23 device with extreme care is important.

You can do that by applying a screen protector. But to protect all points of weakness, use a camera lens protector for all the back cameras and top it up with a robust case. Doing so will keep your S23 in pristine condition for a long time.
