I use Safari on my MacBook and I have checked the "Block Pop-Up Windows" under the Safari heading on the toobar. So how can 'zeda' (or something like that) blast through?

Pop-up ads and windows use JavaScript to do it, so as long as you have JavaScript active in Safari's Preferences > Security pane, you will get those.

Sites or advertisers living from those Pop-ups are always on the run to get views and therefor constantly develop their code to bypass Pop-up blockers. Obviously this means they put a lot of focus in working around blockers shipping with browsers. You may be able to block Pop-ups more reliable using some Anti Pop-up plugin or something like Adblock.
