A few months ago, Google announced that it will stop offering unlimited storage on its Google Photos service. However, a recent announcement suggests that the Pixel phone users will continue to get unlimited storage on this photo management service.

When Google Stops Offering Unlimited Google Photos Storage

From June 2021, you'll no longer be able to upload and keep an unlimited amount of data in your Google Photos account. All the files that you upload after this date will count towards your Google account quota.

If you exceed your limit, you'll be asked to go for a paid plan that offers more storage.

Pixel Phones to Continue to Get Unlimited Storage on Google Photos

While the change applies to all the Google Photos users, there are some exemptions.

If you use a Pixel 2, 3, 4, or 5, Google says that you'll continue to get unlimited storage on Google Photos even after June 2021. This means you'll be able to upload all your photos and videos in high-quality without being concerned about the quota for your Google Photos account.

Pixel Phones That Don't Get Unlimited Storage

The sad thing is not all Pixel owners are getting this perk. According to a tweet by a Google employee, only the Pixel 2, 3, 4, and 5 users get unlimited storage on Google Photos.

This means you won't be able to use a Pixel 1 phone to avail this benefit.

Also, the tweet mentions that future Pixel phones won't offer unlimited storage, either.

Upload Your Files Before the Free Unlimited Storage Ends

A good thing is that it's still a few months before the change goes into effect. This means you can get all your photos and videos uploaded to Google Photos before that, and not have these files counted towards your quota.
