My pen drive says write protected every time I try to do anything with it, either copy data, extract data or try to format it. What can I do?

Batman, does it have a little switch with which you can set it to write protection? What is the model of your pen drive? If this is not caused by a physical lock, you may be dealing with a virus. Is this happening just with this one drive or have you tried others and run into the same problem? The latter would be an indication of malware at work.In that case you can revert it by fixing an entry in your Windows registry. I have to assume that you're using Windows.1. So click this key combination: [WINDOWS] + [R]2. Then type > regedit into the Run window and click > OK.3. Navigate to this path in the registry: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINESYSTEMCurrentControlSetControlStorageDevicePoliciesIf this entry doesn't exist, you have to create it.4. On the right side you will see a key called > WriteProtect.5. Double-click it and under > Value Data set the value to 0 and click > OK.Repeat 6. Repeat step 5 for the entries called ControlSet001 and ControlSet 002.7. Exit the registry, reboot your computer and try to use your flash drive again. Then be sure to scan your computer for malware.
