After getting shut out by Big Tech, Parler has finally resurfaced on the web. The "free speech" platform is now accessible to existing users, and will soon start accepting new user registrations in the coming weeks.

Parler Reemerges After Big Tech Blackout

Parler has made a comeback following a lengthy blackout. The alternative social network has been gaining traction among political conservatives, and was booted by Amazon Web Services (AWS), Google, and Apple following the Capitol riots. Parler was accused of not doing enough to moderate violent content, resulting in its removal from app stores and the web.

In lieu of AWS, Parler is now using a host called SkySilk. The site also registered its domain name with Epik, a registrar that caters to other kinds of "free speech" networks like Gab.

A new host and domain registrar aren't the only changes Parler has made—Parler has even reemerged with a new interim CEO. This comes after the Parler team allegedly fired co-founder John Matze.

Mark Meckler will temporarily replace Matze as CEO, and previously co-founded the right-wing Tea Party Patriots group. In a statement obtained by The Hill, Meckler announced Parler's long-awaited return, saying:

When Parler was taken offline in January by those who desire to silence tens of millions of Americans, our team came together, determined to keep our promise to our highly engaged community that we would return stronger than ever. We’re thrilled to welcome everyone back.

Meckler continued on, noting that Parler will remain dedicated to "free speech, privacy and civil dialogue." He also reassured users that "Parler is being run by an experienced team and is here to stay."

Although older accounts on the platform are back up, older posts (or "parleys") haven't been restored. If you already have an account on Parler, you can continue using the site. Otherwise, you'll have to wait about a week until you can sign up.

But even if you already have a Parler account, you might encounter some technical difficulties while using the platform. It appears as if service hasn't yet been fully restored.

The Parler App Still Remains in Limbo

Parler is still banned from the Google Play Store and Apple App Store, which could severely harm its userbase. As it stands, the platform could remain unavailable on mobile devices for an unknown amount of time.

It likely won't be able to return to the Play Store or App Store unless it changes its moderation policies, which is something that Parler will likely refuse to do.
