Paramount+ is a streaming service from Paramount Global. In a world jammed with many streaming services, Paramount+ provides a unique mix of content that makes it a worthy contender.

In this article, we'll explain everything you need to know about Paramount+, including where it's available, how much the service costs, and what content is on the service right now.

What Is Paramount+?

Paramount+ is a streaming service that replaced CBS All Access and launched on March 4, 2021. If you've never heard of CBS All Access, you're not alone. It wasn't marketed nearly as much as Paramount+.

Paramount merged with Viacom in 2019, expanding the library of content it had its hands on. Instead of adding an extra streaming service to its repertoire, it simply rebranded the one it already had.

All the content that was in CBS All Access can be found in Paramount+. There's also a lot of additional content from other networks, along with original Paramount+ shows and movies.

At the time of writing, there are over 40,000 TV episodes and movies ready to stream from channels like BET, CBS, Comedy Central, MTV, Nickelodeon, Nick Jr., Paramount Pictures, and Smithsonian Channel. Plus, you'll also have access to live TV to watch sports and news on your local CBS station.

Where Is Paramount+ Available?

As of this writing, Paramount+ is available in Australia, the United States, Canada, Mexico, most countries in South America, and many other Latin American countries, like Costa Rica, El Salvador, Guatemala, Honduras, Nicaragua, Panama, and the Dominican Republic.

You can also access the service in some European countries, including Denmark, Finland, Italy, Norway, Sweden, the United Kingdom, and the Republic of Ireland. Paramount+ has plans to expand the service to Asia and more European countries in 2022 and 2023.

What Content Is Available on Paramount+?

Paramount+ offers original content as well as content from CBS, Comedy Central, BET, Nickelodeon and Nick Jr., and MTV.

Plus, you can find a live stream of your local CBS network within the service. While you may not be able to catch every sport event, there is a lot to watch, including NFL games, Inside the NFL, The Masters, PGA Tour, National Women's Soccer League, and more.

A few of the most popular Paramount+ originals that have released so far include Star Trek: Strange New Worlds, Why Women Kill, the iCarly reboot, and Halo, a TV show based on Xbox's iconic video game franchise. There are also original titles in development constantly to look forward to, including a Criminal Minds revival (titled Criminal Minds: Evolution), Transformers: EarthSpark, and Tulsa King.

If you're into reality TV, there's a ton to stream on Paramount+. You can watch The Amazing Race, Love Island, RuPaul's Drag Race All Stars, Ink Master, Jersey Shore, and more.

There are tons of news shows and intriguing documentaries to stream as well. Most of this great content comes from CBS or the Smithsonian channel, but there are a few Paramount+ originals, like 60 Minutes+, that are just as informative.

Last but certainly not least, there are plenty of Nickelodeon classics to keep you entertained for a very long time. You can stream iCarly (the original series and the reboot!), Zoey 101, SpongeBob SquarePants, The Fairly OddParents, Drake and Josh, The Amanda Show, and so much more. Whether you're diving back into these shows out of nostalgia or you're experiencing them with your kid for the first time, it's time well spent.

As if all of this content wasn't already enough, any of Paramount's movies that are released in theaters will also be released on Paramount+ within 30 to 45 days of their premiere date. For example, Mission: Impossible 7 is scheduled to premiere in July 2023 (barring any more delays) and should be on Paramount+ less than two months later.

How Much Does Paramount+ Cost?

When the service originally launched, there was a Limited Commercials plan for $5.99/month or $59.99/year; this plan has since been discontinued and can no longer be chosen by new customers. If you already subscribed to this plan, your account is not affected in any way unless you cancel and resubscribe at a later date.

Choose the Essential plan for $4.99/month or $49.99/year for limited commercials at a more affordable price. This plan won't include your local live CBS station, but NFL on CBS and UEFA Champions League will be available through separate live feeds.

Or, you can pay double for the Premium plan, which costs $9.99/month or $99.99/year. This plan does include your local live CBS station, but if you watch any TV shows here, just know that you will see commercials. The only commercials that pop up while streaming content directly from Paramount+ are the company's own promotional interruptions to advertise new content.

Each plan automatically comes with a one-week free trial before your card is charged. So if you try it out for a week and you're not happy with the service, you can cancel your Paramount+ subscription and not pay a dime.

What Devices Does Paramount+ Support?

Paramount+ is supported on a lot of devices, including:

  • Apple products: Apple TV, iPhone, iPad.
  • Android products: Android TV, Android phones, and tablets.
  • Games consoles: PlayStation 4, PS5, Xbox One, and Series X/S.

  • Subscription-based services: Fetch (only in Australia), Telstra TV (only in Australia), Sky Q (only in the UK and Ireland), and Sky Glass (only in the UK).

You're not limited to one device either, so feel free to skip around between multiple devices. But if other people are using your Paramount+ service, keep in mind that one account can only stream on up to three devices simultaneously.

What Other Features Does Paramount+ Have?

Although only three people can stream content on Paramount+ simultaneously, up to six profiles can be set up on the service. Each profile has its own watch history and recommendations. There is also an option to set up a profile in Kid Mode, which will only show age-appropriate TV shows and movies.

Certain Paramount+ originals and Smithsonian content will support 4K/HDR and Dolby Vision. The streaming service will not support Dolby Atmos sound at the time of writing, but it could in the future.

Lastly, you can download Paramount+ content (up to 25 titles) through the mobile app on your phone to watch at a later date without using data.

Which Streaming Service Should You Invest In?

If you're not sure about investing in Paramount+, you can get a seven-day free trial with Paramount+. After those seven days, if you don't see yourself using the service, you can cancel your subscription at no cost.

With so many streaming services available now, it's hard to know which ones to purchase a subscription for. If you're not careful, all those small subscription fees can add up quickly, so make sure you're aware of all your options for both free and paid streaming services.
