OnePlus devices have always been known for their fast charging speeds. And with the upcoming OnePlus 9 Pro, OnePlus is once again planning to raise the standard for charging speeds on flagship smartphones by including 50W wireless charging.
50W Wireless Charging, But There's a Catch
The OnePlus 8 Pro from last year was the first OnePlus phone to feature wireless charging. It features 30W wireless charging along with Warp Charge 30T wired charging. The OnePlus 8T shipped with faster 65W wired fast charging but missed out on wireless charging.
For the OnePlus 9 Pro, the company is tipped to include 65W wired fast charging and 50W wireless charging. As reported by Pricebaba, OnePlus will also launch a new "Warp" branded wireless charger to go along with the OnePlus 9 Pro.
The OnePlus 8 Pro charged wirelessly at 30W speeds only when you used the Warp Charge 30 wireless charger. A similar scenario will likely play out here. Which means that in order to enjoy the 50W wireless charging speeds on the OnePlus 9 Pro, you will have to use the upcoming new wireless charger from the company.
When used with any other Qi wireless charger, the OnePlus 9 Pro will presumably charge at speeds of 10-15W, similar to other flagship Android devices.
While all major Android flagships feature wireless charging, their charging speeds typically cap out at 15W typically. Samsung's Galaxy S21 series and the iPhone 12 series support wireless charging speeds of up to 15W.
While not mentioned, the cheaper offerings in the OnePlus 9 series are unlikely to support such fast wireless charging speeds or even wireless charging at all. OnePlus is scheduled to unveil the OnePlus 9 on March 23.
