I bought a new laptop with Windows 7. Office 2007 is already installed. When I try to open it, it says I need to enter my product key, but otherwise opens with limited functionality. I don't have a key. What can I do?

Hello, the reason that your office installation asks you for a license key is because most of the office package installed in a new system are only a trial for a limited number of uses. In order for you to get the full office package you need to buy a license and/or uninstall it when the trial is over. Check your documentation and the specifications for the laptop and it should say that you have the office trial....not a full version. The only times I have seen a full office version is when the client ask for it to be installed when computer is bought. To get the Microsoft answer you can visit the following link:http://answers.microsoft.com/en-us/office/forum/office_2007-word/i-have-a-new-laptop-and-microsoft-office-asks-me/c56e12d6-6957-e011-8dfc-68b599b31bf5?msgId=2d50006e-6a57-e011-8dfc-68b599b31bf5 Now, if you laptop came with a full version of office installed, you can do as the other commenter said and there should be a license key somewhere in the documentation.

exactly! In the last 3 years i bought two laptops and both came with a trial version of the Office and few other triel programs like Norton Security. I usually instantly uninstall them and get free alternatives that you can check out our Best Windows Software page.http://www.makeuseof.com/pages/best-windows-software

I believe that new laptops are typically shipped with the product code for the software inside the paperwork that comes with the computer. I would search through the paperwork and look for the Microsoft license document for the Office software. If you can't find it, I highly suggest you contact the manufacturer, or the retailer where you bought the PC. If it was advertised as coming with Office, you sure should get the license.
