How many Nvidia GeForce GTX 590 can be installed in ASUS Rampage IV Extreme motherboard? And why? Thanks.

This motherboard has a total of 5 PCI-Express x16 slots so theoretically you could install 5 cards as long as you have a sufficient power supply. However, the maximum logic configuration is Quad SLI/Crossfire. Since a GTX590 does have two cores the maximum logic configuration is 2 cards. Any other card can only be used for general computing e.g. PhysX, Cuda, OpenCL.For a single-core GPU card the configuration would be as followed:Single VGA -> Slot 1 running at x16SLI/CFX -> Slot 1+3 running at x16/x163way SLI/CFX -> Slot 1+2+3 running at x16/x8/x16Quad SLI/CFX -> Slot 1+2+3+4 running at x16/x8/x8/x8Also the motherboard has a limit of 40 PCI-Express lanes, which means with the above Quad-SLI configuration the last slot won't be usable.

Damn, can people actually afford to have 3 (extra) ridiculously expensive graphics cards in one machine, and the power supply to support them? Just for gaming? You gotta *really* love Skyrim. I imagine you can set the draw distance to be, I dont know, the entire world….

I guess some people can... but as I said it doesn't make sense. You can't go over Quad-SLI which means only two GTX590 cards powering Skyrim. Using an additional GTX590 for PhysX is kind of a waste of money.

Hello, this are the specs for your motherboard:http://ca.asus.com/en/Motherboards/Intel_Socket_2011/Rampage_IV_Extreme/#specificationsAccording to specs, you could install up to four Nvidia GeForce GTX 590 graphics card in PCI-E 2.0 slots.  The reason why, is because this motherboard has 4 PCI-E 3.0/2.0 x16 slots for graphics card.  It also has a PCI-E slot running at 8x.  This motherboard supports a quad configuration, either for SLI or ATI.  These are the specs for graphics  card:http://www.geforce.com/Hardware/GPUs/geforce-gtx-590/specifications

Should be 4 because of 4 way SLI. Need probably 1250 Watt PSU for that though
