When it comes to security, ease of use is critical. You don't want to be fumbling with an awkward app when your home is potentially being broken into. The Nooie Pro Cam looks to be a flexible link in your security chain, but is that all it can do?

Nooie Pro Cam Design

For those that have previously used Nooie’s doorbell camera, you’ll spot a familiar color choice.

 The default coloring is currently still a distinctive earth-toned clay, but Nooie intends to offer a mocha or snow-colored sleeve accessory for the Nooie Pro Cam.

However, in contrast to the much longer doorbell, the Nooie Pro Cam measures only approximately 1.4 x 2.4 x 2.9 inches (3.6 cm x 6.2 cm x 7.5 cm). For a single camera, the Pro Cam also weighs only 184.45 grams (around 0.4 pounds).

With respect to its intended design for both indoors and outdoors, the rear of the camera provides a covered micro-USB port and a hollowed magnetic mounting hole. Both help maintain the rectangular design of the camera that allows it to be placed flat without any cord or mount interruptions.

Nooie Pro Cam Technical Specifications

While the Nooie Pro Cam favors a smaller size, its overall technical specs closely resemble the Nooie's wireless doorbell camera while also looking to expand on its features. It supports a resolution of 2K (2560 x 1440) like the doorbell; but it has a narrower field of view at 140°, and a smaller 5000 mAh. For night vision, it expanded its coverage with both the more standard IR night vision and color night vision via a spotlight.

To help with smooth home network integration, the Nooie Pro cam supports both 2.4GHz and 5GHz Wi-Fi. Plus, the accompanying base station still supports SD cards up to a size of 128 GB. For smart integration, the Nooie Pro Cam also supports both Alexa and Google Home.

Nooie Pro Cam Set-Up and Integration

For those already familiar with the Nooie app, adding additional cameras hasn't changed much despite the other steady stream of app updates.

 After tapping the plus button, you’ll select the Nooie Pro Cam from the camera line-up and then set up your base station. After this, the Nooie app by default will filter their base stations between their respective generation, so there's little confusion when looking to pair the Nooie Pro Cam.

Unfortunately, the Nooie Pro Cam doesn't work with Nooie's first generation of base stations, so you can’t just purchase the camera by itself. You’ll need to purchase either the single or double Nooie Pro Cam bundle, which includes a new base station. For initial set-up, the Nooie app presents a short series of instructional graphics while also providing quick in-app help for any common problems.

If you do experience hiccups in the process, it’s typically a simple matter of returning to the prior step and repeating it to successfully complete pairing. 

But once you’ve set up your cameras, it takes a moment for them to sync and go live with the Nooie app.

Nooie's Second Generation Base Station

To help improve the Pro Cam experience, Nooie has introduced a newer version of its base station. While its connectivity improvement isn't immediately noticeable in isolation, it does cut back on some longer buffering that would occur with the doorbell cam.

 Initial pairing with the base station has also smoothed out with fewer potential connection errors whilst adding multiple cameras.

As with the previous generation, this is your local SD storage spot that allows for a safe backup of your recordings in light of any potential camera theft. As before, you can either opt to connect wirelessly or connect it via an Ethernet cable while adding another 130 feet of Wi-Fi coverage to your home. While still more compact than other base stations on the market, you'll still need to be prepared to donate some outlet space for it.

For those looking to install multiple devices at once, one second-generation base station supports up to four Nooie Cam Pro or doorbell devices. So depending on how large you want your home security to be, there's the opportunity to mix-and-match.

Battery Life with the Nooie Pro Cam

As for the Nooie Pro Cam's battery life, let’s take into account that each of these cameras has a 5000 mAh battery compared to the 10000 mAh battery capacity of the doorbell cam. 

With this said, the Nooie Pro Cam’s battery life is related to the actual use of the camera (the number of times the camera is triggered).

 If the motion trigger is constantly firing, the battery life depletes at a faster pace.

So you'll need to consider this limitation when placing its field of view in higher traffic zones such as doorways. While you can charge the battery periodically via its included USB cable or opt to keep it charged via a USB wall charger, Nooie does intend to offer a separate extension cord and solar panel to tackle situations where there’s much faster depletion.

Using the Nooie Pro Cam Indoors

When weighing indoor use for the Pro Cam, you might wonder why to use it versus the Nooie 360 Cam or its recent 2K upgrade. To this end, you'll want to consider the usefulness of its more compact sizing and wireless nature versus Nooie's taller cylindrical cameras, which are wired. In both respects, the Nooie Pro Cam makes for a useful mobile spot-monitoring camera if you need to quickly monitor different rooms.

So whether you’re placing it amongst a TV stand or amongst books on a bookshelf, it can discreetly fit more spaces.

 For initial testing, I typically let it either sit on a TV stand or a tablet stand of an exercise bike to quickly monitor a singular entrance.

With normal foot traffic, the Nooie Pro Cam would deplete its battery in two or three days due to the number of times it was triggered. While not excessive, it didn't feel like an ideal use case for the camera.

However, when placed outside normal pathways, the Pro Cam did a much better job at monitoring a space without excessive battery use.

When utilizing the spotlight inside, there are three levels of light to choose from which can quickly illuminate a small space. By activating the spotlight, you can quickly swap from the black-and-white IR night vision to Nooie's spotlight-based color night vision. In practice, this works quite well when working with yet darker portions of the day or when monitoring any rooms utilizing blackout curtains.

Mounting Nooie Pro Cam

In terms of mounting, the magnetic base stand and screw-on wall mount make for a quick installation. As before, the included installation works best for relatively simple installations. As I’m installing into vinyl siding, I typically account for the added depth and purchase separate screws.



But once the wall mount is secured, it’s a simple matter of sliding the magnetic base stand on and attaching the camera via its magnetic mounting hole.

 While the magnets make it very easy to attach, there’s still some resistance when pivoting it from side to side to ensure the Nooie Pro Cam's overall stability. Whenever taking the camera down to charge, the magnetic hold also makes for easy removal.

Taking the Nooie Pro Cam Outside


While flexible in usage, the Pro Cam’s ideal usage is outside. Beyond the magnetic base stand that appears integral to its design, there’s IP65 waterproofing and some fire resilience. In my experience, the Nooie Pro Cam performed without issue across high temperatures and heavy storms.

For those looking to place a small assortment of Nooie Pro Cams outside, each camera can be set to different night vision presets. So if you're looking for an automatic spotlight for the likes of a driveway or garage but want to otherwise maintain more discrete night vision around the rest of your home, that's completely possible. The standard IR night vision covers around 32 feet before it's much harder to distinguish.

In terms of detection, the PIR motion sensor ranges between 32 and 49 feet. 

To further get a quick look at things, there's also an in-app 8x digital zoom.

A downside to your protection, however, is that the on-camera siren sounds more chime-like and melodic. As a deterrent, it’s much less loud and jarring than Nooie's doorbell camera. However, the clearly distinguishable spotlight and recording light do both serve as more noticeable deterrents when placed higher up on your home.

When viewing your cameras under a less ideal connection, the Nooie Doorbell Cam let you swap between HD and 2K resolution within the Nooie app. Unfortunately, the Nooie Pro Cam remains fixed at its 2K resolution. While the improved base station does help improve your connection, it's a detail to keep under consideration.

Managing Detection and Recording with Nooie Pro Cam

While the Nooie app overall tends to keep things simple, there are a few things now to keep in mind regarding recording. 


By default, the Nooie Pro Cam will default to fifteen-second recording length, but this can be increased to twenty (which still isn't very long).

Typically, there’s a total cooldown of around a minute for the twenty-second recordings, so there are some gaps to contend with if you had an ongoing incident.

 With fifteen-second recordings, the gap seems to narrow more with successive recordings occurring between thirty seconds to a minute on Nooie's timeline.

 So depending on your need for battery optimization, you'll want to weigh the benefit of more recordings.

For those concerned about false alarms, the built-in AI algorithm still does a good job at detecting humans. In terms of empty recordings of nothing or animal triggers, these occur infrequently. And these sometimes occur from the motion detection picking up someone before they enter a blind zone of the camera.

There are still some concessions within the Nooie app, however. You can’t easily download videos to your phone via the app. Instead, you’ll either have to use a screen recorder or start an in-app recording when viewing footage. For those using local storage, you can bypass this by directly accessing your recordings via your SD card.

Nooie Cloud vs Local Storage

For those tired of security plans, a major benefit of the Nooie line of cameras is the ability to rely entirely on local storage.

However, Nooie Cloud does provide some benefits when enabled on your camera. When viewing Nooie's in-app timeline, Nooie Cloud-enabled devices will show content-specific thumbnails rather than the generic Nooie icons. When trying to quickly sort through previous notifications, this makes it much easier to source specific events.

As another incentive for Nooie Cloud, Nooie has introduced Nooie Day summary view which provides a time-lapse of the day's recordings. This typically generates a good highlight wheel, but there are no real ways to interact with the clip. While it's a good way to bypass the need to pay attention to the timeline or individual clips, it's unfortunate that there's no option again to download this daily summary video.

Third-Party Control with Nooie's Pro Cam

As before, Nooie does offer integration with both Alexa and Google Home. If you’ve previously used the Nooie skill with Alexa, any newly added cameras will automatically register. So if you want to view your cameras without the Nooie app handy, it's a simple matter of telling Alexa to bring up your camera by name.

With the newer base station, the loading delay with Alexa also seems to be improved. So if you're looking to swap between camera views, it's a much smoother matter.

Should You Buy the Nooie Pro Cam?

As for whether you should purchase the Nooie Pro Cam, there are a few things to keep in mind. Much of the value of the Nooie Pro Cam comes from its small size and flexibility in placement. The 2K resolution, spotlight, and magnetic mount allow for a crisp recording almost anywhere.

As a trade-off, there are still some bugs and limitations that come with the Nooie Pro Cam. You look elsewhere if you’re after uninterrupted recordings. Plus, you'll ultimately need to weigh the efficiency of its battery life relative to your security concerns. For high activity areas, you won't want a battery-powered camera.

For many, the Nooie cam will cover your everyday needs. But if you’re after the highest security integration versus more friendly ease of use—this isn't for you.
